Three!

Sooo, we're just gonna start from this moment and fill in the back story some other day. It's been a long, long time since I posted. And no promises for the future, but I'm here right now.

Today was Pecky's THIRD birthday! The bike seat from the previous post has long since been outgrown and loaned out. She's practically riding her own bike now. There's another birdy in the nest now, too. He's pretty suave, as you can see:

After the flurry of new baby happenings, I felt like (Not So Little) Pecky needed a proper party in her honor. So I invited friends. A lot of friends. I finally sat down last night and realized that almost thirty people were coming in less than twelve hours. Then I pooped my pants with anxiety.

I made a quadruple batch of Deborah Madison's incomparable Hearty Lentil Soup. And this morning, Pecky and I jumped into the car and raced across town to nab two baguettes from the best baguette baker on the west coast. And fifteen balloons! Oh, and sparkling water! Oh, and ice! It was that kind of morning.

Raspberries from the back forty were whipped into magenta icing on dark chocolate mini cupcakes topped with gummy bears (her idea- delicious.) They were so good and the party was so fun. We handed out pink mustaches for party favors. Everyone looks handsome in a pink mustache.

And wow, is Pecky three. Everything has changed in the last few weeks. Her speech crystallized into beautifully flowing sentences. She is deep into imaginative play and swinging on her trapeze. Every darn sentence starts with "Why..." She begs for cornrows (and brown skin), although I can barely convince her silky golden locks to stay in a braid. I love her passions and her fascinations. My elf princess is so big. Three!
